problems, preventive dentistry, nutrition
and environmental aspects related to dental
health. It highlights on research methodology,
biostatistics and health informatics. The
student is trained to conduct community
dental health programmes, school based dental
health education and preventive methods.
The department extends clinical care to
nearby rural areas, with established satellite
clinics in various villages adopted by the
Institution. |
|
| Oral Pathology |
 |
Oral
Pathology is the discipline of Pathology
that deals with the nature, identification
and management of diseases affecting the
hard and soft tissues of oral and maxillofacial
regions. The department trains students
to perform routine histopathological evaluations
alongwith haematological, cytological, microbiological,
immunological and ultra structural investigations.
The student is trained in the science of
histology and pathology of oral and maxillofacial
region utilizing state of the art digital
microscopy and LCD projection system. The
department also undertakes more advanced
exercises which provide methods for drawing
and carving teeth from wax, allowing the
student to become intimately familiar with
tooth shape and terminology. |
|
| Oral Medicine And
Radiology |
 |
“Mouth
is the mirror of the body”; most diseases
reflect in oral cavity with various presentations.
This department sits at the interface between
dentistry and medicine and trains the novice
dental student about oral health care of
patients with chronic, recurrent and medically
related disorders of the oral and maxillofacial
region with their diagnosis and no surgical
management. |
Oral
and Maxillofacial Radiology is the speciality
of dentistry and discipline of radiology
concerned with the production and interpretation
of images and data produced by all modalities
of radiant energy that are used for the
diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders
and conditions of theoral and maxillofacial
region.
Graduate students utilize diversified conventional
and modern techniques for diagnosis and
therapeutic purposes. Radiology department
is well equipped with the latest multiple
imaging resources including computer tomography.
Another feather in its cap is the CT Dentascan
which is a specially developed computerized
reformatting programme used to obtain true
cross-sections of jaws for dental implant
surgery. The department takes initiative
in developing an evidence based approach
towards patient management. It also undertakes
several research protocols for the advancement
of the science. |
|
| Oral And Maxillofacial
Surgery |
 |
Students
are trained for extraction of teeth, local
anaesthesia techniques, basic emergency
training, management of medically compromised
patients and complications that can occur
during surgical procedures in the dental
clinic. They are also trained to perform
other minor oral surgical procedures under
